Spelling practiceAdjectives help us make our writing more interesting and descriptive. We worked in pairs searching for adjectives in the dictionary. We had to come up with some adjectives
for every letter of the alphabet. We then used these adjectives to help describe each person in our class to create wordles.
Some adjectives we found were: smart, clever, colourful, cheeky, intelligent, mischievious, funny, naughty, inquisitive
Punctuation
So far we have written about ourselves, our similarities and differences and our holidays.
We have been focussing on using capital letters and fullstops properly. We made our own Capital Letter Check Sheet
which is in our literacy practice book.
REPORT WRITINGWe are learning how to write Reports. We know that they are non-fiction (factual) so we cannot put in our opinion. We also know we must acknowledge our sources where we found some information.
We brainstormed in a range of ways to come up with a list of facts we think we already know. We then cut them up and glued them under heading which we thought they belonged to. We had to justify why we put them under the headings and explain our reasoning if others did not agree. We put other facts under the heading Other because we weren't sure if the information was true or false.
Our next step was to use each key word and write complete simple or compound sentences under the headings below. Our report writing has now begun.
Report Writing HeadingsBefore we can write a report we need to research it and plan its format.
The key headings we are using are:
Classification (What it is)
Location (Where it lives - Habitat)
Description (What it looks like)
Dynamics (How they move/ What it does/ behaviour, etc)
Keep an eye out in the class page for our completed reports.

We have been busy during Literacy time. We read in groups, alone, in pairs, to our peers, to our buddies, and to the teacher. We usually have activities to do that help show we understand what we are reading. We work on comprehension strategies and fluency. We are learning to read between the lines to make us think more about what might be going on behind the scenes or in similar situations. We read: fiction, non-fiction, poems, plays, articles, comics, newspapers, puzzles, rules, recipes and how to make things. Reading is fun.
